Dr Smith graduated from UNSW Sydney before completing General Surgery training through the NSW training program, initially developing a strong interest in Head and Neck Surgery. He subsequently transferred to the NSW ENT training program to pursue specialist training in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery.
Following completion of his ENT training, Dr Smith undertook a dedicated year of research at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, focusing on nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
Dr Smith then completed an internationally recognised Fellowship in Head & Neck Oncology at the University of Toronto, training across Toronto General Hospital, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and Mount Sinai Hospital, where he served as Chief Fellow.
Since returning to Australia, Dr Smith has maintained a strong sub-specialty focus in Head and Neck Oncology. He is an active member of the Head & Neck Multidisciplinary Teams (MDT) at Westmead Hospital and Chris O'Brien Lifehouse, and also participates in the Thyroid MDT at Westmead Hospital.
In addition to his subspecialty expertise, Dr Smith manages a broad range of adult and paediatric ENT conditions, including nasal and paranasal sinus disease.
Dr Smith currently serves as Vice President of the NSW section of Australian Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery (ASOHNS).
